An important delegation of Cuban businessmen from the Information Technology sector (ICTs) arrived in Uruguay to meet with their local counterparts and thus generate development and business opportunities for both parties. "This is the beginning of a relationship with a new market, a road to begin to travel," said Carlos Caetano, president of the Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technology (Cuti), host of the business breakfast that brought together representatives of the two countries.

Cuti's partners eagerly responded to the invitation and filled the meeting room of the NH Columbia Hotel, where the event was held. For several hours, the participants had exchanges that allowed them to present products and services, and also to raise needs in the technological field.

"Uruguay is looking for new markets and Cuba is going out to the world, after 50 years of being closed. We can help them and they can help us. In short, we are looking for a win-win relationship," said Caetano. "Now it remains to intensify business-to-business contact, which will enable the generation of a fluid relationship that will be consolidated over time," he added.

On the other hand, the president of Cuti highlighted the excellent academic training in engineering that Cuban professionals have and, in fact, noted that there are a good number of them working in the ICT sector in Uruguay. For Caetano, there is a large market to explore in Cuba in relation to the development of applications and the promotion of e-commerce, which is taking its first steps.

The meeting between entrepreneurs arose at the initiative of the Technology Division of the Chamber of Commerce of Cuba, and had, since its inception, with the support of Cuti to organize it. Sandra Hernández de la Torre, promoter of the event and director of Information Technology of the Cuban Chamber, explained why Uruguay was chosen. "Latin America is the natural market for Cuba and Uruguay is a reference for the development it has achieved in this sector," she said.

The official also stressed that the Cuban government "has a very aggressive development plan to alleviate the existing deficiencies in infrastructure and connectivity".

"Beyond finding suppliers and clients, the main objective of this delegation is to establish alliances that generate mutual benefits and that allow us to take advantage of the advances of the other party. Even, the distance that separates us can become an opportunity, since a company can become a distributor of applications or services of another," said Hernandez de la Torre.

The agenda of the Cuban delegation will be extended until Wednesday in our country, when they will be received in Cuti, visit incubators and hold meetings with companies that participated in the meeting.
