Last Friday, November 4th in Durazno, the first generation of students of the Technicatura en Tecnologías de la Información de la Universidad Tecnológica (UTEC) were awarded with the certificate "Desarrollo de aplicaciones y Testing".
The award ceremony was attended by the UTEC Advisor, Lic. Graciela Do Mato, the representative of the Uruguayan Air Force (FAU), May. (Av.) María Eugenia Etcheverry and the Coordinator of the course, Lic.
During the speech, they talked about the challenge that this blended learning career meant for UTEC, the strategic alliances with the FAU for the on-site logistics and with the Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technology (CUTI) to build a curriculum aligned to the needs of the IT industry.
I know that for the students and for the family this is a very special moment and I know that it generates interest in the population, it is a commitment for the whole family environment, everyone makes an effort for this to be achieved and carried out, in addition to the group of tutors and very well trained people who have been able to follow Monica Silvestri on this path". Do Mato
Silvestri assured that the degree is possible thanks to the fact that a public university "dared to make a qualitative leap in education, especially in the modality of the degree", and also affirmed that it is important to have professionals in an industry that is having very auspicious news and is in constant growth.
Alvaro Lamé, President of CUTI, contextualised the importance of the IT sector at national level and the challenges that exist in terms of training professionals and the needs of the sector, as well as the Director of the Institute of Computing of the Faculty of Engineering of Udelar, Diego Vallespir.
"UTEC is reaching out to the interior of the country, to many people that the industry needs".

Later, the students received a "Genexus for students" licence from UTEC as a way of complementing their technical training. The licenses were handed over by Aníbal Gonda and Jaime Zilberberg on behalf of Genexus, and by the Secretary General of UTEC, MBA. Marcelo Martínez.
At the end of the ceremony, Martín Hernández - one of the students who obtained the certificate - spoke on behalf of his class, summarising in one word what the career has been for him: "opportunity, to study at home, to study what we like without having to leave our families".
