The search for talent in the ICT market in Uruguay is not an easy task, even less so when it is aimed at finding a professional capable of running a company in the sector, combining their knowledge of IT and administration. IT companies are very different from their base and therefore require different strategies and training.

Having detected this problem, the Universidad de la República and Cuti set themselves the challenge of expanding the educational offer of the School of Economics and Administration through proposals that combine elements of administration and Information Technology. From the joint work of both institutions was born the postgraduate diploma with specialization in Organizational Information Systems and Management of Information Technology Companies, approved in 2012 by the Faculty Council.

MSI Gabriel Budiño, Academic Coordinator of this postgraduate course, who has worked on the project from the beginning, emphasizes that "the highlight of the process was that Cuti not only raised their needs, but made specific contributions to the contents, objectives and profile of the postgraduate. It is not a postgraduate course designed solely from the academic point of view. It is a diploma with a preponderantly professional profile developed with the industry and the support of AGESIC, ANII and Uruguay XXI".

"The goal of this postgraduate diploma is to contribute to develop the necessary skills to identify, develop and manage the benefits that technology can provide as competitive advantages, value-added and business solutions. It seeks to train professionals with knowledge in information systems, information technology and management sciences, developing specific training in consultative sales of IT projects and software, project management, management of information systems, and entrepreneurship in the area of information technology," he added.

Asked about the graduate profile, Budiño said: "We hope that those who complete this diploma will develop the vision and leadership necessary to manage ICT projects according to strategy, be able to participate in the formulation and management of projects, as well as in the development of strategic plans, policies and programs related to the marketing function in IT companies. Also to expand their knowledge to manage IT companies and transform the technology business model into a real company.

This initiative is part of an ongoing process of expanding the educational offerings of the University of the Republic, with the aim of contributing from the FCEA to the development and transformation of the University with an interdisciplinary perspective for high-level training linked to the needs of the country and the prospects of regional development".
