Seeking to encourage more women to opt for a professional future in the technology industry, where currently mostly men work, the Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technology (Cuti) held the second edition of its Techy for the day.

The activity was held as part of the celebration of the International Day of Girls in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), promoted by the International Telecommunication Union, and brought together hundreds of young people who learned first-hand the behind the scenes of Cuti's partner companies.

Abstracta, Arkano Software, Altimetrik, Inswitch Solutions, Kaizen Softworks, Pyxis, Globant, Ingenious Softworks, Itapúa Consultores, Ledefyl SA, Quanam, UruIT, Sonda, Onetree, GeneXus, K2B, GeneXus, Genexus Consulting, Rootstrap and Infocorp were the companies that opened their doors during the day and organized different dynamics.

"We are happy with the great call this year, both girls and partners who joined the initiative. In Uruguay only 32% of workers in ICT companies are women and they occupy less than 20% of management positions, so the goal is to go for more. From Cuti we carry out several programs that contribute to increase the presence of women," said Victoria Diano, member of the Human Capital Department of Cuti.

The participants had the opportunity to witness the work environment, see the dynamics of work and the different professional profiles that exist in the sector, as well as to exchange with women referents, who told them about the possibilities offered by this market.

Diano pointed out that "Techy for the day seeks to popularize the industry. We need to break down gender myths and barriers to pursuing ICT careers, because the most attractive jobs depend on the people and their interests, as well as the access to information we give them.
