Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, robotics, cloud storage...
Many of these innovations and applications are used for business, commercial, advertising and even political purposes.
However, ICTs also make their contribution to solving urgent social problems.
Through information and communication technologies, for example, the integration of excluded sectors of the population can be accelerated, giving them access to goods and services, or improving the quality of life of people with disabilities.
At La Mesa TIC we looked at three initiatives that use technology in the search for a direct social impact on people.
We spoke to Alejandro Andrada, a member of Casavalle de Pie, a neighbourhood organisation in the Casavalle basin, which is running the "Casavalle online" programme; Raquel Paniagua, vice-president of the civil association Dame Tu Mano. This is an organisation that seeks to support breast cancer patients. Raquel is behind the project Caminos de Pacientes, an online platform to facilitate the transit of patients through the health system; Marcel Barceló, chemical engineer, one of the creators of Gestika, an app that works as a collaborative dictionary of sign language.
