On 23 June, Abstracta was recognised as the winner in the national category of the award "Talent has no gender" award which is implemented by IDB Group, PwC Uruguay and the Win-Win (an alliance of the European Union, ILO y UN Women).
"We receive this recognition with great joy and pride. Winning the talent has no gender award is a privileged opportunity to share and publicise our actions and experiences in addressing gender issues from our role as a company that can be an agent of change for society," says Vera Babat, Chief People & Culture Officer of Abstracta.
Abstracta started by being part of the WEPs network of companies and this process gave it the impetus to communicate and formalise some practices that were already happening in the company.
"Promoting and creating spaces to raise awareness on the gender issue is key as it cuts across several dimensions.
We always say that we seek to promote a healthy and humane environment and part of this physical, psychological and social well-being depends on all people, women and men, being able to unfold and develop their potential.
That is why we have invested a lot of energy in raising awareness and training on these issues, be it within the team, to people interested in entering the world of testing or to the general public.
Promoting gender equality and women's empowerment in the workplace, the labour market and in the community is a social-global issue that engages and challenges us all; more so in a highly masculinised industry such as the technology industry," she adds.
The IT industry integrating a more diverse vision is key because of the quality job opportunities it can provide, but also because of its potential impact on society and the power technology has to create futures.
The position of women in roles with high visibility and responsibility helps more women, young women and girls to realise that they have a lot to contribute to the world of technology, and that this world needs them.
"We will continue to work and help to break glass ceilings so that more women occupy roles that have a great impact on organisational strategy and to achieve a fairer working environment and thus move towards the kind of networking we dream of," she concludes.
On the Win-Win Programme: Gender Equality is Good Business
The Programme is a partnership between UN Women, the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the European Union (EU). Its overall objective is to contribute to the achievement of gender equality through women's business leadership, labour force participation, entrepreneurship, economic empowerment and thus their full and equal participation in the economy and society.
